The North American Brass Band Summer School is hosted in the dynamic waterfront city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in association with the city's annual extravaganza, the world's largest annual indoor show, the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.
Halifax is the capital of the province of Nova Scotia, Canada. With a population of 390, 000, it is the largest population centre in Atlantic Canada and largest in Canada east of Quebec City. Halifax was ranked by MoneySense magazine as the fourth best place to live in Canada for 2012, and placed first on a list of "large cities by quality of life" and second in a list of "large cities of the future", both conducted by fDi Magazine.
Halifax's tourism industry showcases Nova Scotia's beautiful scenery, culture and coastline. The city has many museums including the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia, and the HRM is home to several internationally renowned events in addition to the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, including the Atlantic Film Festival, Jazz Festival and Atlantic Fringe Festival. The city also boasts numerous National Historic Sites, the most notable being Citadel Hill (Fort George) in the centre of the city of Halifax itself.
The nearby Peggy's Cove is an iconic internationally recognised landmark which receives in excess of 600,000 visitors a year. Cruise ships also pay regular visits to the province
Popular activities within the city include whale watching, boat trips, deep sea fishing, visits to the Alexander Keith's brewery as well as Casino Nova Scotia. Halifax also boasts more bars per capita in the downtown area than any other city in Canada, and so could very well be the perfect destination for the average brass player's vacation...
The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo takes place at the downtown Scotiabank Centre while NABBSS also has our own additional rehearsal base at nearby St Matthew's Church, adjacent to the accommodations at Gerard Hall, Dalhousie University.
