Repertoire
Repertoire for the NABBSS is twofold. In the first instance, the summer school band participate in the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo as a static "set band", performing from the large Tattoo stage alongside over 500 other musicians from Canada, the United States and other featured nations in the Tattoo's massed band production scenes.
Tattoo performances take place each day at the Halifax Metro Centre, for an audience in excess of 6 000 people - c. 60 000 people throughout the run. The performance is also captured on CD and DVD, each year both of which amass a good deal of broadcast exposure on radio and television across North America via broadcast on the PBS network.
In the second aspect of the summer school, as with other schools of this nature, attendees tackle new and more challenging brass band concert repertoire under the guidance of the NABBSS tuition staff, who are on hand throughout providing expert tuition and support. Repertoire includes some of the latest works from the catalogue of NABBSS partners and leading brass band publishers Prima Vista Musikk.
This concert material then forms the programme for a small number of festival performances which the NABBSS band undertake across the city of Halifax during the school's second week, under the baton of Dr. Childs.
An outline of repertoire from NABBSS 2014 is provided below. NABBSS 2015 repertoire will be confirmed in Spring 2015
