Departure

As can be seen from the above schedule, delegates should ideally arrive for the NABBSS at Halifax International Airport [YHZ] on Friday June 27. Attendees can then enjoy a leisurely first day settling into their accommodation, and join NABBSS staff for an informal Meet & Greet evening reception. *Delegates unable to arrive on Friday must arrive in Halifax early on Saturday June 28.

Saturday morning will see the first summer school rehearsals commence with Dr Robert Childs, in the form of a mixture of individual band and sectional rehearsals / workshops with tuition staff, preparing initially for participation in the massed bands of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. These initial days will also see massed band sequence rehearsals together with the additional international civilian and military bands and performers at the Halifax Metro Centre.

Monday June 30 will then see the preview show, for invited audience, of the world's largest annual indoor show, in which NABBSS delegates will feature as an integral part of the stellar international cast of nearly 2000 performers, for a daily audience in excess of 6000 people.

Tattoo performances will thereafter be held daily, either in the form of a 14:30 matinee or 19:30 evening performance. In addition to the performances summer school attendees will receive additional rehearsal and instruction from Dr Childs and the NABBSS team in preparation for a small number of concerts the NABBSS band will give toward the end of the summer school run.

These performances will take place as afternoon concerts on the days of the latter evening Tattoo performances (Monday / Tuesday, July 7 / 8) under the baton of Dr Childs, in a selection of venues across the city of Halifax, as part of the RNSIT Festival. The final performance of the NABBSS and RNSIT will take place on the evening of Tuesday July 8, after which delegates will then depart for home on Wednesday July 9.

In addition to all of the above NABBSS delegates will be afforded considerable opportunities for relaxation, sightseeing and socialising throughout the duration of the summer school, including opportunities to socialise with their fellow summer school attendees, NABBSS tuition staff, plus other RNSIT performers, for which numerous social gatherings - including the final cast party - are organised throughout the run of the show.

Delegates will also be afforded the time and opportunity to experience additional local tourist activities, including whale-watching, boat trips, etc, at their own expense, should they wish to do so, and subject of course to NABBSS and RNSIT rehearsal / performance schedules.
